I am 59 years old and retired as Deputy Chief for the Santa Clara County Fire Department in December 2018, where I proudly served in every rank since 1989. Some of my most rewarding accomplishments in the fire service include being a member of the department's Safety Committee, a founding member of the first Honor Guard, serving on the California statewide FIRESCOPE Safety Specialist Group for 11 years, and contributing to the planning and design of new fire apparatus and two fire stations. I hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Fire Administration and an Associate degree in Fire Science Technology. In addition, I am a state certified Fire Officer and Chief Officer.
For the past eight years, I have proudly served as a Director for the Scotts Valley Fire District. During this time, I’ve helped negotiate a new labor contract, hired three Fire Chiefs, worked with the facility and finance committees, and completed a feasibility study for future facility development.
Currently, I work two days a week at Scarborough Ace Hardware in Kings Village, a wonderful local business run by a great local family. I enjoy helping community members with their everyday needs and finding solutions to common problems.
Originally from Los Gatos, I’ve lived in Scotts Valley for the past 26 years with my wife, Traci, a Scotts Valley native and Office Manager at our local San Agustin Catholic Church. We raised our three children here, all of whom attended Scotts Valley schools, played sports, and worked locally during high school and college. After college, our sons, Mitchell (with his wife, Tessa, and their newborn, Wesley) and Nathan (and his girlfriend, Jordenne) remained in the area. Our boys are both firefighters and our daughter, Olivia, is a senior nursing student at the University of Portland and plans to return home after graduation next year.
As a family, we love camping and boating on our annual trips to Trinity Lake in the Shasta-Trinity Forest. We also enjoy time at our family cabin in Cedar Ridge near Sonora. Personally, I love country music, attending concerts, cooking, hosting pool parties, and cheering on the San Francisco Giants and the 49ers. My main hobby is restoring classic cars, including a 1966 Ford Mustang GT and a 1973 Ford Bronco.
I feel incredibly fortunate to live in such a beautiful, safe community with great schools and caring people. Keeping Scotts Valley safe is my top priority, which is why I’m running for re-election to the Scotts Valley Fire Board of Directors. I would greatly appreciate your vote and the opportunity to continue serving our community.
